Friday Night Fever

The crowd anticipates the snap of the ball and erupts with cheers as the ball is carried for a ten yard gain. The school spirit, the camaraderie, the hard hits, and the roaring crowd after a touchdown are all the things that go into making the perfect Friday night. Coming back to school after a long, relaxing summer can be difficult for most. Luckily, Friday night football

games can be something that we can all look forward to after a long week. I asked one of our avid football fans, Matthew F. (Senior), what he enjoys most about going to a game on Friday night. He responded, “Probably watching the Centurions go to work and get the `dub’ (win), while being surrounded by all of the people and energy in the `CALiseum’ (our student section)”. Speaking on behalf of our entire football team, it is easy to say that the energy and support of the crowd rubs off on us and helps us perform better as a whole. As for this upcoming 2015 season, the Centurions have a much tougher schedule than years past against some unfamiliar opponents, such as Simon Kenton, Central, and Meade County. Likewise, we will still be going against our challenging, well-known opponents such as North Oldham, and our biggest rival, DeSales. We will be looking to send a message right off the bat, that we will continue the tradition of coming out on top against seemingly better opponents. I talked to our head coach, Stefan Lefors, who was named Class 2A Coach of the Year this past season, about some things that we are going to do different this season to help us be successful throughout the regular season, and into the playoffs. His response: "I would say that our off-season workouts, and how hard guys have worked will definitely pay off for us. Another thing that will help us in the postseason, will be the fact that we have an extremely tough non-district schedule. Seeing bigger and faster teams will help prepare us for the playoffs." Even with a small team this season, CAL football will be looking to go further than it ever has, and we will be working harder than ever in practice to make that happens. Again, I encourage every student and family to go to the games, as it gives us motivation and helps us execute plays better when the crowd is on our side. Furthermore, I encourage everyone to attend all CAL sporting events, as it helps build school spirit and friendships, which leads the school to be a healthier environment for everyone.
