Weirdest News of 2014
In America, we have very selective memories when it comes to our history. We remember the pride of how we built our colonies and fought for independence, but forget the suffering we caused the natives. We remember how Lincoln freed the slaves, forgetting how he voted against their civil rights. We remember how Andrew Jackson destroyed the national bank in favor of the common man, and we honor him on the twenty dollar bill but forget how he allowed the death of many along the Trail of Tears, making a mockery of the Supreme Court's ruling.
Even today, we continue to forget news all around us, or even worse, the media ignores it in favor of more controversial or sensational stories. Here's some of the weirdest news stories from last year you probably don't remember happening.
3. Australian Bikers Arrested for getting Ice Cream
This may not be American, but it certainly is strange. Australia has certain anti-association laws to attempt to keep down group crime rate. Because of this, five bikers were arrested for just being together after they bought ice cream.
2. Pokémon Threatens National Security
On September 11th, 2014, a man hopped over the White House fence and was tackled by Secret Service members. It's sad enough that many don't remember this security threat occurring just last year on the anniversary of 9/11, but considering the man was wearing a Pikachu hat and carrying a Pikachu plushie, it's truly shocking.
1. Man Dies of Atomic Wedgie
Supposedly meant to be a harmless act of humiliation, Oklahoma citizen, Brad Davis pulled an atomic wedgie on his unconscious step-father after a fight. The band on the underwear snapped around his neck and suffocated him to death.
