South Carolina Flooding
The south has always been known for beautiful weather and a great place to visit to escape the cold. Not so much this time of year in South Carolina. Unfortunately, the Carolina areas have been pounded with ungodly amounts of rain. Several inches of rain plunder South Carolina, even as much as over twenty inches of rain! Insane! This rain piling up down south forces people out of their homes and causes the utmost panic for families. The damage will cost over billions to repair. As a result of the rain stopping, Mayor of Columbia stated, “We are far from being out of the woods” (CNN). Unfortunately, South Carolina has a lot of work to do, and it is just a matter of time before the water drains to the coast.
These disastrous floods in South Carolina evacuate families from their homes, destroy homes, and set up looters to steal from the empty houses. Not only do the floods damage lives around the state, but even crush their hearts with missing friends and family. Even death approaches, as the threat of high levels of water cause chances of drowning to increase significantly. The death toll tallied up to nineteen, and many more are still missing. With these floods, the damage is costly. Dams breaking, electrical companies, and water systems all contribute (and many more) to the payments South Carolina will have to repay as a result of this tragedy.
As expected, classes at schools all around the state are shut down. Even interstates are closed, and businesses are struggling to find work with no travel. Universities, such as the University of South Carolina, have shut down classes and leave over thirty thousand students and administrators absent from their work. The floods have even caused the popular game of football to be played elsewhere, as the Gamecocks of South Carolina had to move their game to Baton Rouge. As originally scheduled, the Gamecocks were supposed to compete at home against the Tigers of LSU. However, the excessive amount of rain causes the field to flood and travel is put in danger coming into the state of South Carolina. LSU has shown plenty of class, generously giving away their home tickets to fans of South Carolina who still wanted to attend the game. LSU even went as far as having their band play South Carolina’s fight song when they entered the field. The floods have impacted states all around South Carolina in an odd way. Thankfully, donations are sent to South Carolina, in attempts to get that state back to life as it was before this fiasco.
