Bevin Wins!
Republican, Matt Bevin, competed for the new position as governor against Democrat, Jack Conway. Our current governor, (D) Steve Beshear, sits in office and is out of terms to continue to hold this position. He now is running for Attorney General, which Jack Conway used to do for the commonwealth of Kentucky. Once Kentuckians saw Conway’s name in the poll, he seemed to have the upper hand in this election since he grew up in Kentucky. Bevin, on the other hand, grew up in Massachusetts. Bevin, however, now resides in the bluegrass state and has for many years.
Bevin served in the United States Army and had a lot of experience as a businessman before we saw his name in the polls for governor. He's a pro family candidate who has nine children, including four children adopted from Ethiopia. Many citizens of the bluegrass state showed their concern with Bevin as he lacks political experience; however, he is very insightful and intelligent. Some disagree, but CAL senior, Chandler A., says, “He is a winner.” Conway drew in the attention of many Kentuckians with his experience in politics prior to the election. There were plenty of debates between the two candidates, but the most notable televised discussion was held at Eastern Kentucky University. At this debate, Bevin exposed Conway for his lack of responsiveness and continued to pound him over multiple issues that surround Kentucky. Bevin was very comfortable and sure of his policies while he addressed the audience both at the debate and as he answered viewers all around Kentucky in conversations that followed. The most controversial topic Conway and Bevin completely disagree on is the establishment of Kynect. Kynect is a healthcare plan that covers individuals, families, and businesses. The problem Bevin has with this plan is that it's a cover for many people but cuts jobs for many Kentuckians. Bevin believes it is unsustainable and that Kentucky is already broke, as it is. Matt Bevin ended up taking the new spot in office and was victorious on the third of November. Bevin sees a future for a prosperous Kentucky and strives to change the state in a positive manner.
