Do or Die
It's that time of year when the leaves on the trees turn brown and the high school football season winds down. All of the hard work during the offseason comes down to this tournament. For seniors, there is no more “next year.” It is playoff time, and it is win or go home, do or die. For the Centurions, our 8-2 record during the regular season has earned us the number one seed in the playoff, and our fifth district championship in a row. For the past decade, getting a spot in the playoffs has been second nature for the Centurions. CAL football started in 1998. Two years, later they made the playoffs but fell to Danville 57-0. In early November 2002, CAL earned its first playoff win against Metcalfe County 24-0. This season, thirteen years later, CAL meets Metcalfe County once again in the first round of the playoffs, as we hope for similar results. As we all know, football season is a long and exhausting three months. Our team captain, Cal L., explains how he keeps the team and himself motivated to stay on board during the post-season. He said, “As a team, we work hard all year for one goal, playing for the state title. Being the only team left after the first Friday in December is a huge goal for this team, and we use this as fuel to work hard everyday. Also, making history for this school is something this team wants to do very bad[ly], so it helps us to compete to become the best we can be as we enter playoff season.” There you have it, CAL will be continuing to work hard with one goal in mind, the state championship. It is an attainable goal if we continue to work hard as one body. Everyone needs to come out and support the Centurions for our first three home playoff games. We need everyone on board if we want to achieve our goal to bring prestige to our school.
