Kyle Hornback Sues Katina Powell

Six weeks ago, Katina Powell, self proclaimed "Escort Queen," published a book: Breaking Cardinal Rules. This book allegedly tells the stories of immoral and illegal UofL recruitment parties. It claims that Andre McGee, the school's former director of basketball operations and former graduate assistant, planned these parties and hired strippers for them, strippers that he payed for and would also pay extra if a recruit wanted more from them. This allegation sent the media into an uproar; Andre Mcgee resigned, people wonder if head coach Rick Pitino will keep his job, and it is overall causing a lot of stress and strain for the University of Louisville. The allegations and all the embarrassing publicity even make life harder for ordinary students at the university. It devalues the education they are receiving from UofL, therefore potentially causing them difficulty in finding a job.

This reality angered many students, but one determined student decided to do something about it, and is actually suing Katina Powell. Interestingly, the UofL student taking Katina Powell to court walked the hallways of CAL only two years ago: CAL Alumni Kyle Hornback. She saw that terrible publicity damages the University's reputation, and the education she is paying for. She decided "it wasn't fair for her to make a quick buck at the expense of every student at the University of Louisville." Because Kyle is well informed in the judicial process, she knew about the Sons of Sam Law. She explained it as a "law in Kentucky that prohibits anyone from making money from criminal activity." Kyle knew that Katina Powell committed some illegal activities, including unrepentantly selling her own daughters into prostitution, and realized she could use this law to hold her accountable, so she filed a class action suit. This means that she is not only suing on her own behalf, but any student at the University of Louisville is able to join in on the lawsuit. The goal of the lawsuit is to "prevent her from profiting off of the promotion of prostitution," so if it is successful, Katina Powell will not receive any of the profits that her book elicits.

There is no date set for the trial, but they will have a hearing with the judge relatively soon. No matter what the results are, Kyle still accomplished a great feat. Instead of sitting around complaining, the way most students her age might respond to an injustice, Kyle took initiative and caused the change she wanted to see in the situation. Hopefully, she will succeed in fighting a criminal activity, and possibly be the one good thing that comes out of this whole situation.atively soon.
