Translators worldwide could lose their jobs due to a new invention that could transform how we communicate with other people in foreign countries. At the beginning of this new year in the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, this highly self-proclaimed translating device, called ili, was presented. As displayed at the show, it could potentially translate a language on the spot. As of right now, it can only translate three languages: English, Japanese, and Chinese. The company has guaranteed more languages will come in the future. One of the greatest perks of this handy little device, that's worn like a necklace, is that it does not require an Internet connection or anything of the sort. Unlike Google, it uses words and phrases that are saved to its hard drive and doesn't need the Internet to find them. The only downside so far to this is that it struggles in loud areas like conferences and social events. But overall, it looks quite promising and revolutionary. Along with the presentation came an advertisement video that has gotten the attention of people all over social media, but not for a good reason. In the video, a man by the name of Dean, who is from the UK, is walking around a busy city in Japan talking to strangers. Sounds harmless enough, right? Well, it was until Dean turned the innocent conversation into an attempt to flirt with random ladies as he asked them for a kiss. Thousands of people on social media have viewed this advertisement as sexual harassment because Dean seems to come on a little strong in the video. Others have said it’s just humorous and meant to be a joke. Either way, the video makes the viewer feel a little uncomfortable, but despite this, the great technology and potential will far surpass the controversy over one advertisement.
